I think it's been a while since I've done a giveaway - and as I'm just a little blog (yes I know you imagine I'm world famous but really dear reader, I'm not) it's just a small giveaway that I am funding myself.
So here we are - a few fun bits of glamorous stationery to help you organise your life (or just your blog!) or to use as a gift.
The rules of the giveaway are simple, you must use the rafflecopter entry thingy below. There are lots of ways to enter and you can do one or more of the entry methods. None are mandatory - sadly as I'm paying the postage this giveaway is open to UK addresses only.

Special Susie Children's Book Giveaway
Hello blog fans (I said that in a Roland Rat voice...old people will understand)
Today I have a treat - free books!
After interviewing Stephen Adams a while ago I was offered a set of his stories to giveaway.
Cute stories about a little girl called Susie, who is special to her family, just like all children are. She is caring, nosy and brave. And like many children she is not always 'good' but she always means well. Susie also has a love of coloured hair ribbons. The books are mystery stories, and Susie (sometimes with help) solves them.
A lovely bedtime read or a simple read for new readers. You can win all three books in this UK only, free to enter, giveaway. Each Book is signed by the author. You just need to use the Rafflecopter thingamy-bob. Thanks! (Ends 27/02/2016)

Bundle of Baby Things - giveaway
As you know, the lovely DD is 15 and thus not a baby.
When she was a baby I was the sort of mum that bought the minimum amount of stuff that I considered properly essential for a baby. A few baby gros, some towelling nappies, a cot. I think that was pretty much it. But there is so much you can buy isn't there? Wipes, baby baths, chairs, monitors, sterilisers...
And now there is even more choice, some things I confess are rather a good idea. Like a disposable nappy kit to grab when you are off out, everything you need in one handy grab pack - perfect to stash in the car or shove into a coat pocket or your bag.
Or teething rings, and even I needed baby bum cream on occasion (not for me! for the baby!)
Then if you choose to use a bottle for formula or expressed milk you need that...so you'll be pleased to hear I have a little bundle of goodies to give away.
Usual drill, UK only, enter using the Rafflecopter thingy below.

Art and the internet
Recently I've been excited to see photos of Banksy's new installation 'Dismaland' and I've been dying to see it for myself, but it seems that tickets are hard to get hold of, the travel is a bit far for me and it's only open until the end of September. So it seems that I will have to make do with looking at the art online.
It made me realise how lucky we are to have so much art available at the touch of a button. I have visited (and loved) many famous art galleries, Tate Modern, The National Portrait Gallery, the Prado, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofĂa, and more but even if you cannot get to these famous galleries, with the wonder of the internet you can see so many paintings (and other art forms) instantly, even on your phone.
I know that seeing a picture in real life is different, but it is so much better to see something online than not at all. And while art books have been available for years, seeing them involves trips to the library or money to spend. The joy of the internet is so much free art to look at. And then if you like it you could either plan to go and see the real thing or even buy a life sized print of your favourites.
I'm a huge fan of Salvador Dali, Picasso and Goya, loving the dark nightmare-ish qualities of some of those paintings, look at the hideous dark beauty of Goya's work "Saturn devouring one of his sons" for example.
There are lots of websites to look at art, Artsy.net is a great place to start, because it has information aboout the artists and the works as well as pictures. (and if you are feeling flush they sometimes have works for sale)
It's a great place for kids to browse too, no worries about them getting bored and playing up in a gallery - let them find what they like in the relative comfort of your own home, children can surprise you with what they like too! Given the chance to look at paintings by the old masters they can also be surprisingly perceptive.
Do you have a favourite piece of art? Do you have any original artworks in your house? Or a reproduction print that your children love? I'd love to know!

Swimming costume giveaway (£25 Voucher)
After yesterday's blog post reminder that we all have beach bodies, it seemed like fate that today I can offer you a swimming costume giveaway!
You may not be aware that I don't swim (*can't swim) but I live on the coast and so lounging about, looking awesome, while scantily clad, is very much in my remit.
DD on the other hand can swim and dive very well, in fact she once scammed me into paying out £200 in sponsorship for a swim in that I thought she'd manage about 10 lengths (she swam 100 at £2 a length! note to self - always add maximum amount to sponsorship form in future).
Swimming and lounging require various swimming costumes in my opinion and Swimshop have some fabulous sleek looking costumes, I imagine just looking at them would make you cut through the water faster.
They stock top brands, various sizes, and cater for men, women and children.
So if you or your family are up for a splash about then this is for you. I have £25 to be won to spend on the Swimshop site. And as they have gorgeous swim suits and bikinis from £14.99 and men's trunks, swimming accessories and children's pool toys too, you can treat yourself, or someone you like.
My favourite swimming costume is this one. (Because life is too short for shy and retiring!)

Book Review - Porridge the Two Faced Parrot by Jaylen Grace
I was recently sent a copy of a children's book to review. I worried that it would be too 'young' for my DD who is 14, but it turned out she found it both engrossing and hilarious. So much so that she blogged a review on her own blog here.
I'm not sure what age group the book is aimed at but as the author dedicates the book to 'all kids' I'm going to suggest if your child understands the word 'fart' they are the right age.
Did I mention it's a bit rude? Not the sort of rude an adult minds but just the sort of rude to have small people sniggering in minutes.
The story begins as we meet a deaf granny, a school teacher, a small boy and a rehomed parrot. Farce style misunderstandings abound in the first few chapters and continue through out the book, as Porridge (the parrot) is a suspiciously good mimic of voices and has the knack of saying just the wrong thing at just the wrong time. But Porridge has some other, unforeseen skills...

Winner of the Toy Comp
I ran a Toy competition with Linky thingy and although I only had a few entries they were all fabulous!
I really enjoyed reading about Angel Frouk's much loved baby doll. Lovely to see she is important enough to keep through all the years and still revive happy memories.
So funny to read about Edd and his (frankly terrifying) giraffe, and his weird decision to turn down a bearded Action Man when given a choice!
This selction of photos of BunBun (a toy loved by an adult) exploring the garden made us smile too, and reminded me that grownups can still enjoy the silliness that toys can engender.
But our winner (mostly as I could so identify with the need to purchase multiple versions of a lost toy 'just in case' and then ending up with 3 that are all loved!) was x2Mum . Here's hoping that Jacob and Daniel (with his appropriate den of lions!) enjoys the Bunny Puppet from the One Stop Bug Shop.
Thanks to all that joined in.

For the love of Tea - #Competition
A nice cup of tea. What could be better. (shhh no one mention bacon butties or alcohol)
A nice cup of tea, what could be better, suitable for vegetarians, teetotallers and everyone (ha! see what I did!)
I love a nice cup of tea, you know when you make a really good one that is just right, no scum on top, just the right strength and just the right temperature. And that temperature is 60-65oC according to the Royal Society of Chemistry they also point out that the water should be freshly boiled and not re-boiled (something that my husband does grrr!) as previously boiled water will have lost some its dissolved oxygen and that is important for tea flavour.
My tea of choice is Assam. I love its golden colour and taste to wake you up! I always feel its like a 'posh' builder's tea. I drink it white, with one sugar.
My lovely husband drinks green tea (loose leaf only, in a glass cup) with no milk or sugar. But he's weird.
It was with excitement that I discovered the perfect website for the tea lover! The rather aptly named 'Nothing But Tea' (though actually that's a fib as they sell tea related goodies too.)
They are, to be blunt. tea obsessed. It's all about the wonder of proper tea. Honestly take a look, who knew that tea was such an enormous subject, a tea bag is nothing, nothing, the NBT website is alive with the joy of the leaf, the ceremony of the art of tea making. Just a read of the website makes me want to spend time watching my tea brew, to really savour the proper taste of proper tea, and I'm British after all, we are famed for making and drinking tea!
Nothing But Tea shuns the teabag (filled as they are with inferior leaves and dust) and sells only loose leaf (Mr TM will be happy!)
But don't panic, in a hurry you can still make a fast, fuss free brew using the cutest tea ball
or play submarines in your mug
Or go the full ironic and use a teabag shaped infuser
I bet you fancy a cup of tea now. I know I do. Luckily the lovely people at Nothing But Tea would like to give away a Beautiful Tea set (worth £48) and a whole box of tea samples to one lucky reader! Could it be you?
To enter use the Rafflecopter thingy below.
You must leave a comment here telling me which is your favourite tea from the Nothing But Tea website (I confess Mexican Sunrise Oolong sounds rather fine!) There are extra entries for Twitter follows, Google+ shares etc.

Camping AND saving the planet!
Why do I camp? I've mentioned lots of the things I like about camping before. The peace and quiet, the sounds of nature, the smells of the wild, the smell of the canvas tent, seeing wildlife at night, just being close to nature, experiencing the wild.
Lots of people camp and many camp for the reasons I describe above. But we still like a few 'home comforts' don't we? Even the wildest camper amongst us. I take solar powered lights and string solar fairy lights around the tent. I like a comfy mattress, I love Twitter (no really?) so i need my phone and like to charge that. It's nice to read after dark when we camp in the Autumn (or, shiver, winter!) so lamps. I take a camp stove to cook food, etc etc
We draw the line at EHU (Electric Hook Up) though. No TVs, no heaters. But how to power things? what if you do want to have a slightly more technology orientated trip but you want it to be as 'green' as possible?
Well I have just been told about an amazing Eco Tent, a rather fab idea!
E.ON has teamed up with The Scout Association to create the ‘Tent of the Future’ which showcases modern technology and features a range of gadgets to help future campers. Key features include:
• Vertical wind turbines that catch the wind and convert it into power;
• Solar panels on the tent’s surface that harness sunlight and turn it into electricity;
• Solar powered baseball caps with built in torches for bedtime reading and late night trips;
• A portable battery that campers can pre-charge and use to charge gadgets and devices whilst camping;
• An intelligent sleeping bag which regulates body temperature.
The E.ON Tent of the Future is currently on display at an international scouting Jamboree in Essex where 11,000 Scouts will be able to see how camping could be in years to come.
Apparently over a third (36%) of children won’t camp because they can’t charge gadgets! I found that quite shocking, because I'll be honest, while I love twitter I'd rather camp with no twitter than not camp at all!
So some of these ideas might really appeal!
Research also found that adults are hardier than youngsters when it comes to sleeping in the great outdoors. Some 40% of children said they were put off camping as it could be cold, compared to just one in five (22%) adults. Over a third of the younger generation were also put off by the idea of being close to creepy crawlies (36%) and sleeping in an uncomfortable tent (39%), compared to just one in six (18%) and 29% of adults respectively.(They need better sleeping bags is all I shall say!)
Despite the rain-soaked British summer and the reluctance of younger generations to get involved in camping, a quarter (26%) of UK adults will go camping this year.
The top five reasons for going on a camping break1 are:
1. Cheap way to have a holiday – 54%
2. Enjoy being outdoors – 50%
3. Enjoy simple pleasures – 40%
4. Get away from the pressures of modern life – 31%
5. Brings the family together – 26%
Speaking about the findings and the E.ON Tent of the Future, Fiona Stark, E.ON’s Director of Corporate Affairs, said: “The UK has had a long love affair with camping, but we’ve found that this love is diminishing when it comes to the younger generation. As with most things, camping needs to move with the times and adapt to modern needs.
“Our Tent of the Future combines the benefits of traditional camping with a modern twist. In years to come, energy-generating mini wind turbines and solar power generating tent material could well be commonplace in campsites across the UK, allowing campers to enjoy the great outdoors, while still being able to charge their gadgets.”
Simon Carter from the Scouts Association added: “The Tent of the Future is really striking, especially compared to some of the more traditional tents at the Essex International Jamboree. While we continue to teach the Scouts core camping and survival skills, we can definitely see huge benefits from the technology and innovations in the future.”
As energy partner to The Scout Association, E.ON is sponsoring the Scouts’ Global Conservation Badge and has produced an educational kit for Scout Leaders and Scouts, available at scouts.org.uk/eon. The kit helps Scouts attain their badge and also provides a variety of fun and engaging energy-related activities to help young people understand energy. For more information on E.ON visit www.eonenergy.com.
But you neededn't wait for the future because right now I have 2, yes 2, Solar caps to giveaway! They are rather cunning (and I was tempted to keep one for myself). You wear the hat during the day and the peak soaks up that sun, and then lets you use it at night to read your book! (or hunt for creepy crawlies)
The caps are a campers dream, not only will they protect adults or children from the sun, they turn into a head torch at night! They have a solar panel installed into the peak which provides one hour of light for every one hour spent outside during the day. It doesn’t have to be sunny to charge the solar panel. There is a switch on the underside of the peak that campers can use so they make maximum use of the torchlight during the evening.
The caps are a practical and environmentally friendly way for campers to generate their own light.
And to be in with a chance to win one all you need to do is enter using the Rafflecopter thingy. Thanks

It's a review - but there is Batman, and a shark
We interrupt this blog for a review, normal service (ie ranting about shit) will be resumed as soon as possible (cue tinkly music)
I’m sometimes sent products to try out for Vosene.
For example they asked me to try out their Head Louse Repellent spray Which always makes me think of this ...
and is just as effective! (against head lice obviously – I haven’t tried it on sharks)
So DD and I were excited to receive a couple of bottles of the new range.
I have to admit that we both caressed the bottles for some time as they are both distinctive to look at and strangely stroke-able.
But then DD could wait no longer and stripped off eager for a shower test! First up was Sensitive shampoo, which, while still containing SLS , says it is low in perfumes and designed for sensitive scalps. It lathered nicely, smelled nice and was generally warmly received by DD.
The far more exciting thing was next though, a conditioner. I’ve been after a Vosene conditioner for some time and DD has hair that is over 18 inches long so it’s a must in our house. The conditioner we tried is for coloured or damaged hair and was thick and creamy (I have since tried it too) and it makes your hair feel soft and silky. I still needed to add some serum to my hair after my shower, but DDs soft hair was very comb-able and the conditioner smelled lovely.
I was pleased to see that on the website they mention a shampoo and a conditioner for silver hair! Hoorah! This cougar will be trying that very soon. So all positive and clean at the house of TM and DD.
Thank you Vosene!

The one where I share money saving tips and then lose the plot
Today I listened to The Jeremy Vine show. Sadly I often have to listen to his inane ramblings and tedious subjects as I share an office, and democracy dictates the majority rule the radio waves. Often his callers are as misinformed and as odd in their ideas as he seems to be (I fervently hope he is just pretending to be as stupid as he sometimes appears) any way today took the biscuit with some top money saving tips…
Now I don’t know about you but I do try and save money. Most of the way we do that is fairly obvious, we buy cheap unbranded stuff, we switch off lights we are not using, we don't buy newspapers, we turn off electrical appliances, etc
So I was a little surprised to hear the advice “Buy dresses in the sale to save money” Wow, I thought, how lucky he told us that! Who knew! Sale items are cheaper than full price! Great tip!
And to be fair I tuned out as much as I could after that, but still stupid money saving tops, from the glaringly obvious to the blatantly stupid began to pop into my head and so, without further ado I share them. I hope you don’t need to instigate any because either you already do them or you can see that they are plainly ridiculous.
My thanks to several tweeters for joining in with my idiocity.
Can you spare a cup of sugar?
Please add more tips below, serious or silly, all appreciated

- Buy things that are a bit cheaper than you usually buy
- Eat a bit less
- Ask the green grocer if he has any old vegetables ‘for your rabbit’ – eat these (My MIL actually used to do this)
- Try the above tip with bones for the ‘dog’ from the butcher – make soup
- Read your neighbours’ newspapers the day after they are printed, they can be easily rescued from the recycling bin under cover of darkness
- When a mate visits, ask them to bring their own tea bag, or batter yet, a flask of tea.
- Ask your neighbour if you can ‘borrow’ a cup of sugar. Do this weekly, never give any back
- Don’t buy any clothes at all for at least a year, you have too many anyway.
- Switch off your car engine when going down hill.
- Use a head torch powered by cheap pound shop batteries rather than turn lights on in the home
- Get rid of your TV and save on the licence fee
- Ditto telephone
- And also electricity…and your car
- Drip hot wax onto your head and stick a candle on it, even cheaper than a head torch!
And it was at that very point I realised I needed a lie down, or a cup of tea…

Christmas Decoration Exchange
Thanks for the interest! I now have about 16 people signed up (although a couple may be the same person!! LOL I get confused with twitter, blog and real names!!) I'm happy to have a few more if you have not signed up yet.
You really do need to send me your address and email address though - you can safely use the contact page on this blog - or DM me on twitter for my email.
The plan is to create a sort of 'chain' each person will send to the next on the list - I won't announce who is sending to whom so it will be up to you if you reveal who you are!! Doing it this way means it doesn't matter if an odd number of people join, or if an odd number of people don't want to post outside their country.
It is NOT a competition, however great or bad you think your decoration is it will be loved as it was made by you! and handmade is always best.
There is no theme, except Christmas, no one is to be offended by religious or non religious items - we are all grown ups (except me) The only proviso is that the item is to be hung on a tree so it needs to either light or small or both.

Yes, yes, I know it's only September....but...
.... it's cold enough to be winter and I've already started buying Christmas presents....oh stop judging me, you are only feeling bad that you haven't got organised yet!
(Why not get some CMT Christmas cards as September is CMT Awareness Month)
Anyway that made me think, long ago I was a member of a chat room and we sometimes did silly swaps (in real life! actual things, through the post!) and I've come to love twitter and blogging so much I wondered if it would work here too. Being in the middle of a global financial meltdown I realise no one has much money but something small and cheap to post would be a ray of sunshine in a gloomy world wouldn't it! Something like...
A Handmade Christmas Tree Decoration! We could all do that, anything from a picture we drew and laminated, to an elaborated felt sewn reindeer, with anything in between. Glitter covered pine cones, painted wooden stars, Festive Fimo Father Christmas, pipe cleaner shapes with beads, well you get the idea. Something lovingly made but not necessarily expensive (though diamond encrusted salt dough gingerbread men are fine too) and something small and easy to post...

Giveaway!! Do you like it frequently? (I like it every day)
If you like it frequently then this giveaway is for you!
But first a little preamble….
As you will know, I’m a mummy and I blog, but I don’t think of myself as a “mummy blogger” – to me (and I’m almost certainly wrong!) a ‘mummy blogger’ is a SAHM who has 3 or 4 kids under the age of 5, she works hard to keep a house running, entertains children and blogs at 11pm when she finally has 10 minutes to herself on the laptop. She takes blogging seriously because she might not always get out into the real world everyday, she blogs well, and regularly, mostly about her family and children. She also goes to mums groups and has a life that is mostly centered around young children and other mummies. (don’t be offended I’m sure you are not all the same!)
I on the other hand, am a WOHM and my husband is our 11 year olds main carer (he has been since I went back to work when she was a year). I work full time, am a ‘mummy’ at evenings and weekends, and take DD camping a lot! I have no social life around other mums, my colleagues are nearly all younger than me and childless, I chat mummy stuff online only. I am, however, a ‘mummy taxi’ at weekends.
I blog about whatever pops into my head (which is why you are reading a rambling internal monologue..) , and I blog only when I feel like it – pretty spasmodically. Of course I sometimes blog about family stuff because I love my family, families are important.
Some of us create our own families (by marrying and/or having children) some cling to the family we were born into, some are lucky enough to have both and maybe even a huge extended family. For some families are pets or friends that we have known for so long and are so close to that we are now forever connected.
Vosene contacted me a while ago due to my headlice obsession. And since then they have been generous in giving gifts for blog giveaways, they have been sweet about keeping in touch too.
And now, stop waffling I hear you yell! Get with it – what free thing can we have? Give it to us! And give it to us frequently…..
Well it so happens that giving it to you frequently, ( in the shower would be my choice), is exactly what I plan to do. If you want to be soothed, silky and generally soaped up and clean on a frequent basis then this giveaway is for you!
I have 20 full size bottles of Vosene Frequent wash anti dandruff shampoo to giveaway and all you need to do to claim a bottle is to let me have your email address (via my Contacts page or via Twitter DM) and comment here to tell me your favourite thing to do frequently!
First 20 commenters will be able to do it daily!

#MagpieMonday another #Freecycle Delight
Just a quickie this week. A fabulous freecycle bargain (ie it was FREE!)
We needed a spare bed for the guest room which until now have been used as an office, in fact it will still be an office and I'm sitting in it now typing this, but sometimes we'd like to utilise it for what it was designed, a guest bedroom.
I saw someone offering a futon on freecycle. 'In good condition' well i was sceptical but asked politely and was offered the futon. When I went to collect it i was very pleased to see it was in nearly new condition! Had a lovely cream cover (removable and washable) and was really just what we wanted.
It fits in the room beautifully, and gives us the perfect sofa to sit and watch our freecycled 2nd TV :-)

Donkeys are cute - and I have one to give away!
DD receives some scrumptious gifts at her birthday parties. Last year she was given a Stitch-it Donkey Kit, by not one but two people! and it was great fun to make! Simple sewing (so no sewing the wrong side and turning it inside out - just stitch and stuff!) and he is green (my favourite colour)
So we made one and toyed with the idea of making the second but then we thought, why not give him away! there are so many crafty bloggers (with and without kids) out there - I 'm sure one of you would love it! It's suitable for children aged 8 and up, and obviously the grown ups are welcome to try to win it and have a sew too!
2 things though, his ears are too sort to be a donkey in my opinion! and we used stick on googly eyes instead of sewing them, but otherwise ours was as he should be :-)
So what must you do to win such a fun treasure? well sadly you must live in the UK (it's me paying the postage!) or be prepared to pay the postage if you are that keen!!
and then you need to tell me in 20 words or less why you want to win him, Simples!!
